“Spirited Lady of Fowey, Spirited Lady of Fowey, this is Hope. Spirited Lady to Hope, please go Channel 14.” A bit tense I call Suzy on the radio. I see on my AIS transponder how she approaches Grenada from the South with her 56 feet yacht. Friends in Trinidad told us that Katia would come with Suzy to Grenada. “Josh we are just putting the sails down, ETA about 30 minutes from now in Prickley Bay”. “OK, I am going there, Hope out”.
I jump in a cab to Prickley Bay. I wait in the marina bar and drink beer while I talk to some very nice couples who are also sailing the world. I feel relieved in sharing my thoughts en they empathize a lot with me. It takes hours before Katia, Suzy and the rest of the crew come on shore. Katia walks up the pontoon and we hug each other intensely. The whole group of sailors who heard the story come stand around us and hugs us, Suzy and each other; a real feel good moment together.
Woman and freedom
Katia and I have a great night together and a good talk in the morning. Katia chooses for Hope and me and I for Katia. We both didn’t want to compromise and stuck to our plans. But we choose for each other and it is time for compromises. The tradeoff: we stay sailing and travelling but we are not going into the Pacific in march. Our sailing area this year will be the North Atlantic and the Caribbean. Meanwhile we work en route and save a bit. We will see what to do thereafter. We are both happy!
Happiness in the Caribbean
Vini, my Brazilian friend, did not sleep on board during the two nights before Katia came on board. He hooked up with a American student and they are really enjoying themselves. We go to the beach and out for dinner. When Katia joins us the boat with two hungry “pirates” turnes into a boat with two couples who are in love. We have a great Christmas dinner with the four of us, we go out for dinner, to the beach and we enjoy ourselves under the waterfalls of Grenada.
Does history repeat itself?
Vini jokes about what a soft hearted guy I am. Changing my trip for a woman and all. I chuckle because I have a premonition. I see how Vini and the American girl grow closer every day. And with Katia and me happily together love is in the air.
Vini sleeps a last night with Vivian and then we set sail to the Tobago Cays the day after Christmas. We catch a Mako shark of a meter which we set free again but Vini forgets the joy quickly; he is feeling down. His thoughts are with Vivian. What a soft hearted guy are you mate, I tease him. Are you sure you want to chase woman in the Tobago Cays? Or shall we invite Vivian to come by with the Ferry? 😉
