Katia, world sailor from the Kaapverdische eilanden, is known as sexy world sailor and regularly is asked to pose. On Suwarrow, a small island in the Pacific Ocean, she decides to celebrate her 23d birthday with a small island shoot. This week a foto impression of world sailor Kata on Suwarrow.
Suwarrow is a uninhabited and extremely isolated island in the Pacific OCean. The only way to get there is per sailing boat and it is far. It is 14.000 kilometers sailing from Panama and almost 5000 kilometers (against the wind) from Australia. Even the closets island is 400 kilometers away. Part of the year the island is inhabited by a ranger who maintains the island.
Life at Suwarrow is easy. Juicy coconuts fall on the ground everywhere and the cristal clear bay is full of fresh fish and lobster. The New Zealander Tom Neale lived there for many years and wrote a book about it: “An island to oneself”. A small statue on Suwarrow reminds of him. It reads: “Tom Neale lived his dream on this island 1952-1977”.
Katia: “It was really really far to get to Suwarrow. With Hope from Panama it took us 60 sailing days. Okay, sure, we stopped en route on beautiful destinations, but still. The extreme distances and isolation make it a special place. The water in the lagoon is crystal clear and so warm it feels as if you step into a bath, I love snorkelling here in Suwarrow. Because of the crystal clear water you can see the coral and fish very well.
Katia: “The white beaches you have all to yourself here and in the water there are parot fish in the most exotic colors. Also everywhere there are cute sharks. The only disadvantage I consider the mosquitos. If you go on shore you should spray yourself or you get eaten alive. After more than a week here, I am still enjoying. I look forward to enjoy here for at least a week on this delightful island.
