Hope is our little floating home. She is built in 1974 in the U.K., 34 feet long and weighs loaded about 7 metric ton. We sail with her in all conditions; from a gentle breeze to a strong gale.
Mast & rig
The mast and rig are essential on a sailing boat. They transform sailpower into movement. Before departure we replaced the rigging with top quality from Carl Stahl Yachting. We choose for compacted strand cabels and had the mast thoroughly inspected and maintained. In september 2015 Carl Stahl launched CS rigging; a affordable and full service online rigging company. We endorse CS Rigging fully as with Carl Stahl Yachting.
In order to communicate we use the satellite communication network of Iridium. This satellite solution is provided by Xtreme Districts which supplied us with the Iridium Go marine pack with which we can acces weather information, our e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, telephone and sms.
To insure a world sailing vessel like Hope is not easy. We are however, since 2010, happily and affordable insured via our agent Jan Hollinga from Suydersee Insurances. We definitely recommend Suydersee for an affordable insurance and top service. I already wrote once about long trips and boat insurances. Oceaanreis en de verzekering.
Jan Hollinga from Suydersee insurances:
We know where we can insure which boat best. In this premium is important but even more so coverage. Also we offer dedicated service for the offshore sailor like e-mailing policies, certificates and invoices. Also, when insurers change coverage, which happened regularly the last couple of years with world sailors, we will act pro-actively and look for a different insurer or solution. Important here, is that when people call, they are helped immediately and don’t have to wait. Especially with long distance calls this is important and save costs. Our slogan is not for nothing; “ our experience is your advantage!!”
